Interactive Video Network (IViN)

The statewide network is comprised of sites that feature Multipoint Control Units (MCU). The sites are connected and automatically switched by the MCU as needed during a conference. The IViN network incorporates ISDN/dial-up and IP capabilities; therefore, sites outside of the network can be added into a conference. This extends the capabilities of conferencing to anywhere in the world.

The IViN network uses numerous communication technologies. These include IP, PRI, BRI, ISDN, ATM, fiber optics, microwave, and C and Ku-band satellite uplink and downlink. The technology used at each site is determined by several factors, such as availability of services in a given area, cost effectiveness, quality of service required, amount of usage, and distance to the network in point.
